BUILDINGS
The project are very proud that we operate out of two buildings, The Hut and The Hall.
The Hut was built in 1989 and has very much run its life span. We built it was given a 15/20 year lifespan. So the fact that here in 2023 it is 35 years old. It does cost us a lot of money to up keep and is typical of a timber framed building with no insulation, in that in the winter it is impossible to keep warm.
So sourcing avenues for a better building has been high on the agenda for a long time now. We have looked at serval options but not fit into what we need. Plus where we are situated is perfect for the project. We just need to find a way of making the building more cost-effective.
The Hall formerly known as Knightswood Tenants Hall was taken over in 2009. It took over 3000 hours of voluntary work to get it in a condition so we could use it.
We took this on primarily to be able to provided different activities to just what we could do in The Hut.
It is a great resource for the project, but it costs a fortune to heat. The hut has outlived its lifespan, but we will continue using it as long as it is a safe place.
We have been known for letting the building out for children’s parties or meetings.
